FREE TUITION FOR CERTAIN FOREIGN STUDENTS

Education

The Minister of Immigration of Quebec, Jean Boulet, has just announced a new measure to promote the attraction of international students in the region.

No more tuition fees for all foreigners who want to come and study in Quebec, outside the Montreal region at the college level (CEGEP). The fees to come and study in Quebec at the CEGEP are CAN$17,000 for foreign students who do not benefit from an exchange program. It is therefore a significant saving for those who want to come and study outside the metropolitan region of Montreal.

At the university level, foreign students will benefit from the same rate as Quebecers, approximately CAN $3,000 for full-time undergraduate studies. The fees are normally CAN$24,000, so a saving of $21,000.

To qualify, you must therefore go and study in the region, full-time, in French, in one of the selected fields:

Information technology
Genius
Health and social services
Education
early childhood education
These students will also benefit from personalized support throughout their course:

Help in finding accommodation
network
Preparing for a job
The goal of this program is obviously to make up for the lack of manpower and takes into account the fact that the retention rate of students in their community is over 75%. In other words, more than 3/4 of foreigners who come to study in Quebec stay in the place where they studied after their studies.

The measure comes into force in September 2023, it will not be retroactive but will apply to students who are in Quebec at that time.

Approximately 2850 students will benefit from this program initially, then an addition of 1200 students in the next 3 to 4 years.
