A release date for the upcoming Joker sequel has been officially confirmed.
The follow-up to Todd Phillips’ critically acclaimed film, Joker: Folie à Deux will be released on October 4, 2024.
The film’s title was announced this June, with Phillips sharing it on his Instagram account alongside an image of Joaquin Phoenix reading the script. Folie à deux is the French phrase translating to ‘shared psychosis’ or a ‘mental illness shared by two people in close association’.

While no official plot details have been shared yet, the inclusion of Folie à Deux in the title would suggest that Arthur Fleck’s behavior may likely be shared by another character.
This would also fit with the rumors that Lady Gaga is being lined up to join the DC universe as Harley Quinn.
According to The Hollywood Reporterthe Star is Born actress is currently in talks for the role and, as the Joker seemingly ended up imprisoned in the Arkham Asylum at the end of the first film, her introduction would make sense.
In the comic books, Quinn’s origin story is as a psychiatrist who works at the Asylum. She later falls in love with the Joker, with the pair becoming partners in crime.

Since the film’s release back in 2019, Joker has become one of the most successful comic book adaptations of all time, as well as being the first R-rated movie to ever make $1 billion worldwide.
The film also saw Phoenix earn an Oscar for Best Actor from his performance, becoming the second person to do so after Heath Ledger for his role in The Dark Knight.
Joker is available to buy on Blu-ray or streaming now. Its sequel Joker: Folie à deux will premiere in cinemas on October 4, 2024.
